Valeria TSENOVA
Born in Moscow on th 20th of October, 1960.
Studied musicology at Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatoire in 1980-85,
postgraduate courses in 1986-89 (Principal Advisor: Prof. Yuri
Kholopov).
Diploma paper (MA, 1985): "Theoretical Problems in the Music
of Moscow Composers in the Early 1980s."
Dissertation (Ph.D., 1989): "Compositional Problems in the
Works of Moscow Composers in the 1980s."
Grand Doctor of Philosophy. Dissertation: "Number
Mysteries in the Music of Sofia Gubaidulina" (Moscow, 2000).
Professor of the Theory Department of Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatoire
(since 1992).
1992, 1993: Conducted masterclasses in solfege and music theory
at the musical school in Tokyo, Japan.
1992, 1993, 1994: Conducted masterclasses in solfege, music theory,
and harmony during International Musical Festival in Colmar (France).
1992-2000: Lectured on problems of pedagogy at the International
Summer School of the Moscow Conservatoire.
2003-2006: Conducted masterclasses in solfege, music theory, and
harmony in Anatolia, Turkey.
Read lectures and took part in different international conferences
in Russia (Moscow, St. Petersburg, Rostov, Kazan, Minsk) and abroad
(France, Germany, England, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, Bulgaria,
Lithuania, Greece and Romania).
Received research grants for scholarly work on modern composition:
1996 Austria (Hochschule für Musik, Vienna), 2000 Switzerland (Paul
Sacher Stiftung, Basel) and numerous grants for publications in
Russia.
Member of Russian Composers Union.
Passed away on the 17th of August, 2007. Buried in Troekurov Cemetery,
Moscow.
